Matching Socks

Socks.

A simple article of clothing that most of us wear daily.

A small frustration when folding laundry.

Why? A match usually gets lost. It’s not real fun to look for the matches.

I’ve gotten lazy recently and just put everyone’s socks in a cute basket on top of the dryer.

Why? Because I’m quick to pull out the clothes from the dryer, fold them (sometimes throw them in a basket or on a kids bed) and toss in the next load. It’s easier to throw them in a basket instead of look for the match when it isn’t in the load.

Do your socks disappear? I wish I knew where they went. There’s at least one missing sock in each load of laundry I do.

A few years ago I came across a blog. It was talking about the frustrations of folding your families laundry with an emphasis on matching socks.

She stated she gets super frustrated with the task of matching socks up. Her attitude immediately turns negative. One day while she was sitting in her living room floor folding laundry something came over her.

In that moment she decided she was no longer going to make doing laundry a negative act. Instead it was going to be a positive one.

Want to know what she did?

Yes?

She decided to pray. She would pray over each article of clothing she touched while folding or matching.

The prayer would be for that particular person in her family.

For instance, a baseball sock. She would pray for her son and ask God for his safety on the field.

Now, that’s how you multitask! Knock off an item on your to-do list AND talk to God.

I started doing it. The positive act faded in and out. For a while now it’s been out. Why do we get out of our habits so easily?

While doing laundry this morning I decided I would go through the basket that sits on my dryer with all the socks. And I talked to God. I prayed for my husband. I prayed for my children. I prayed for me. I thanked God for blessing me with socks to match and laundry to fold.

Turn a negative task into a positive one.

It felt good.

I encourage you the next time you fold laundry to change the negative attitude it can sometimes bring into a positive one and talk to God (or to whomever you believe in).

Our sock basket had gotten way out of control but it was perfect timing.

So, maybe you have a sock basket or need to do some laundry today. I encourage you to follow this advice. Say a little prayer for each person in your family. Send up good vibes. Whatever works for you. Turn the negative attitude of doing laundry into a positive one.
